Excitation method of DC motor

In production practice, we often need to use various types of motors. How are the types of motor equipment divided? In fact, there are quite a few methods for division. Below, I will introduce a typical division method, which is their excitation method. Different motors may have differences in excitation methods, and motors with different excitation methods also have significant performance differences during use. Let's introduce several common motor excitation methods to you from oil pump motor manufacturers.

(1) Separate excitation: There is no relationship between the excitation winding of a separate excitation type motor and its armature winding, as they are two independent modules. So what is the power supply for the excitation winding of a separately excited motor? It's another DC power source. A common type of separately excited motor currently is a permanent magnet DC motor.

(2) Shunt excitation: In a shunt excited motor, the excitation winding and armature winding are connected in parallel, and the main power supply for the excitation winding is the terminal voltage emitted by the motor itself.

(3) Series excitation: Series excitation actually corresponds to the parallel excitation mentioned above, because in the series excitation motor circuit, the excitation winding and armature winding are connected in series. Then both need to be connected to a DC power source.

(4) Compound excitation: A compound excitation motor combines the parallel excitation and series excitation circuits mentioned above to form a composite circuit. Therefore, compound excitation can often meet more diverse needs in more complex structures.
